From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Music
As a songwriter Dale is best remembered as the lyricist for the movie theme Georgy Girl, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1966. The song (performed by The Seekers) reached number 2 in the US charts the following year…………..

Film
Dale’s film debut was a tiny role as a trombone player who thwarts orchestral conductor Kenneth Williams in the comedy Raising The Wind (1961). However he is most famous in the UK for his appearances in eleven Carry On films,[2] a long running series of comedy farces, generally playing the hapless romantic lead…………..

Stage
At the age of eighteen Dale became the youngest professional comedian in Britain, touring all the great Variety Music Halls. On stage he appeared in both straight and musical roles, and has been nominated for five Tony Awards, winning one for Barnum when in 1980 he became “The Toast of Broadway” (N.Y.Times), also winning the second of four Drama Desk Awards…………..

Voice work
To millions of fans in the United States and Canada, Jim Dale is the “voice” of Harry Potter. (In Britain the audiobooks are produced by Bloomsbury, and Stephen Fry reads them.) He has recorded all seven books in the Harry Potter series, and as a narrator he has won two Grammy Awards, seven Grammy Nominations and a record ten Audie Awards…………..

From Audio Book Narrator Johnny Heller.

As a multiple Audie Award winner and a long time narrator, I just wanted to tell you that I think your site is informative, well written and – I hope! – a great success.

I enjoy the articles and timely information.

thanks.

Johnny Heller

From AudioFile:

Heller was a starving artist in Chicago, working as a bartender and waiter to support his stage and stand-up-comedy ambitions, when he auditioned and landed his first voice-over acting job…………..
“I tend to speak fairly quickly, but for audiobooks I try to slow down so I can be heard–also, because I get paid by the recorded hour…………..
Heller believes the narrator needs to come into every project well prepared. “Mostly it’s just allowing things to happen–not pushing so much. It’s a different school of acting. You need to read the book, know the characters, and be a conduit for what the author wants to say and the listener needs to hear…………..

Summing up, Heller says playing all the parts and creating the voices are his greatest challenge…………..
