I am a lover of good fiction. This week, fiction lovers everywhere will be happy to see the list of awesome new audio book titles available on Audible.com.
Michael Connelly offers up the sixteenth installment in his Harry Bosch series and Nicole Krauss follows up The History of Love with a new novel that sounds amazing.
Legendary author Philip Roth releases his latest short novel that follows the cycle of Everyman, Indignation, and The Humbling.
Has released his 31st book, Nemesis, narrated by Dennis Boutsikaris. In Nemesis, the 1944 polio epidemic hits a close knit Newark community. Bucky Cantor, a playground director who was unable to join the army due to weak eyesight, faces the realities of the disease as it ravages his charges at the playground. I haven’t read any Roth and am not sure I would start with this one, despite the exceptional reviews.
Brings back Harry Bosch in The Reversal, narrated by Peter Giles. Bosch teams up with defense attorney Mickey Haller, who happens to be his half-brother, to investigate a dangerous retrial of a child murderer. Connelly is one of the best crime writers around. Yes, I will most definitely be reading this one.
I absolutely loved Nicole Krauss’s The History of Love. Her new novel, Great House, is narrated by Alma Cuervo, George Guidall, Celeste Ciulla, Paul Hecht, and Robert McKenzie. The novel is constructed of the stories of the lives of several people whose common factor is ownership of a certain writing desk. As it travels through their lives, it affects each in a different and unique way. If you haven’t read The History of Love, you should. She’s a brilliant writer and I’ve been waiting for her to write something new!
For those looking for lighter fare, David Sedaris has written Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, narrated by Dylan Baker, Elaine Stritch, Sian Phillips, and the author. In this departure from his usual essays, Sedaris gives animals human characteristics to take an interesting and observant look at our crazy lives.
Imagine a cat sitting through jail-mandated AA meetings or a squirrel and a chipmunk couple facing the prejudice of their families. The print version has illustrations by Ian Falconer, author of the children’s series, Olivia.
