Historical Fiction Dilemma
Sarah Dunant’s Sacred Hearts (narrated by Rosalyn Landor) returns to Renaissance Italy, the setting of her earlier novel The Birth of Venus, to tell the story of Serafina. As a novice at the Santa Caterina convent where her father has sent her to thwart a forbidden romance, Serafina’s only wish is escape.
Sci-Fi is Out of This World
Honor of the Queen (read by Allyson Johnson), the latest entry in the Honor Harrington Series by David Weber, pits the Kingdom of Manticore against the Republic of Haven.
Literary Fiction Explores Characters
In the Heart of the Canyon, Elisabeth Hyde (read by Cassandra Campbell and Mark Deakins) takes readers on a white water rafting journey through the Grand Canyon as well as the through the lives of the people on the expedition
Bog Child by Siobhan Dowd (narration by Sile Bermingham), features 18-year-old Fergus McCann, a young man who steals into the Irish Republic to steal peat for fuel and discovers a small body.
The extraordinary author passed away in 2007 from cancer. The proceeds from this book will go into a trust to support reading in young people in socially deprived areas.
Nonfiction – Just the Facts
Ben Mezrich offers an inside look at Social Media in The Accidental Billionaires: Sex, Money, Betrayal, and the Founding of Facebook (narrated by Mike Chamberlain). If you have ever wondered how the enormously popular Facebook got its start, check out this story of two Harvard grads whose goal was to increase their chances with the women.
Christopher Steiner offers information in $20 per Gallon: How the Inevitable Rise in the Price of Gasoline Will Change Our Lives for the Better (read by John Wolfe).
