There are quite a few exciting new releases just in time for holiday vacations!
Okay, I’m not going anywhere, but I hope I have some time to read… Let’s see what’s new in audiobooks this week.
Witch and Wizard by James Patterson & Gabrielle Charbonnet, read by Spencer Locke & Elijah Wood. James Patterson is at it again.
This latest release, for young adults, features Wisty and Whit, two teenagers who find out that they have amazing powers as they try to fight the New Order. Riding the coattails of Harry Potter, Patterson seems to be attempting to win over the wizard fans with this novel. My kids enjoyed his Maximum Ride books, but they aren’t interested in wizards that don’t go to Hogwarts.
Girl Missing by Tess Gerritson, read by Susan Erickson. This is actually Gerritson’s first novel, released in audio format this week. The author left a successful medical practice to raise her children and write. She has become a bestselling author of medical thrillers.
In this entry, medical examiner Kat Novak discovers two bodies that may have been victims of a serial killer. I think I have actually read this one. Gerritson does a great job of writing fast-paced medical thrillers.
First in Thirst: How Gatorade Turned the Science of Sweat into a Cultural Phenomenon by Darren Rovell, read by Dick Terhune. My kids are HUGE Gatorade fans. We always have a case of it ready to go. That’s why I am intrigued by the story of the first sports drink. This book outlines the invention, strategies, and luck that contributed to my kids’ favorite drink. Hmm… maybe a stocking stuffer?
Storms of My Grandchildren: The Truth about the Coming Climate Catastrophe by James Hansen, read by John Allen Nelson. Hansen is a scientist who studies climate issues and in this book he addresses the question of global warming.
Hansen advised Al Gore for the documentary An Inconvenient Truth, though today our situation is apparently even worse. The book is a call to action. There is still time for us to make changes to save our planet.
Olivia and Olivia… and the Missing Toy by Ian Falconer, read by Dame Edna Everage. These two stories for young children are extraordinary. Lovely Olivia, a cute little pig, dresses up, sings, goes to the beach, and much more. Children will especially enjoy following along with the picture books!
