Two for the Dough is the second installment of the Stephanie Plum numbers series by Janet Evanovich. In this book, Stephanie has been given the assignment to reign in Kenny Manusco for a bond violation.
In this book, Bounty Hunter Stephanie Plum is back on the job. She’s looking for Kenny Mancuso, who has violated his bond, and was charged with shooting a friend. Looking at his file she realizes Kenny was arrested for shooting his best friend, he says accidentally. If that’s what he does to his friends, imagine what he could do to a bounty hunter who is looking for him.
Armed with all the great defense items she can fit in a purse, including a stun gun, pepper spray and a .38, which she doesn’t like the idea of using, Stephanie is a Jersey girl with attitude and the weapons to back it up. She just doesn’t always know how to put that attitude to play in her quest to get her man.
This book sees a return of Joe Morelli from the first book, the cop that she had hunted down on a murder wrap in One for the Money, who is now helping her out after having his name cleared. It doesn’t take long to get caught up in this book as you follow Stephanie in her chases of suspects through the back alleys of “the burg” in Trenton, New Jersey.
It’s not just the chase of the suspect that pulls you in to these books, but also the rest of Stephanie’s life, which we can all relate to in one respect or another. She is a recently unemployed lingerie buyer who has an over-worrying mother, a father who is completely tuned out, a grandmother who thinks she too should be a bounty hunter and she is working for her perverted cousin Vinnie, who she convinced to hire her after letting him know she had blackmail evidence against him.
Lori Petty is the voice for this book. She has the accent for the region where the book is located so she delivers believable voices for the characters.
