An Overview:

Hunter’s Moon is the 14th Doc Ford novel and takes us on a wild trip as Doc tries to help a former president get his final wish. In Hunter’s Moon, Doc Ford finds himself called into service by Former President Kal Wilson. The former president is dying and wants to do a few final (illegal and covert) things before his time comes.

Main Body:

Wilson’s wife was killed the year before. The first lady was aboard a plane that allegedly crashed in Central America on a mercy mission. But he is having a tough time believing it is an accident. The former president was also supposed to be aboard. Believing the murder was an assassination attempt on him that took innocent lives, he is focused on a mission of vengeance and needs Ford’s help.

This book has a lot of action right from the get-go. It begins with Ford helping the president get past the secret service in order to be able to join him on his vengeance mission. He’s not the only one looking for the president and has plenty more to deal with than just government agents.

From there it is a series of secretive travel steps to try and carefully get the president out of the country, and to his destination, without anyone recognizing him. This isn’t always easy, especially considering they run into some of the reporters that had criticized him during his term.

Eventually the mission turns more personal for Ford. If you have been following the Doc Ford novels you know of Praxcedes Lourdes, the serial killer and psychopath that had his sights on Ford’s son. He’s back with a vengeance leaving a gruesome trail of deaths in his wake in this one. It also turns out that he is connected to both Ford and the former president.

I thought this was one of the more high-paced and enjoyable of the Doc Ford novels. You have to be ready to take a ride with this one, and you may even find yourself surprised at how it ends.

The Narration:

George Guidall was the narrator for Hunters Moon. As always, his voice is perfect for Doc Ford novels. He is able to create the whole cast of characters in this book and make each one come to life with skilled changes of timbre and tone.
