Black Widow is the latest installment of the Doc Ford novels by Randy Wayne White. This book takes you into a new black market – the twisted blackmail of tourists who go to a Caribbean Island for a vacation getaway.
The Doc Ford novel Black Widow sees Doc getting a desperate cry for help from his goddaughter Shay Money. He has to take a trip to the Virgin Islands to get to the bottom of a damaging blackmail video that has been taken of Shay just before her planned marriage to a man of high status.
If the video gets out before the wedding, it will be called off. If it gets out after the wedding, his political aspirations are shot. So, she calls on her godfather to help her out of the jam.
In his travels, Doc realizes there is much more going on here than just a one-time blackmail video that happened to be taken by a couple of locals. It’s a well organized crime ring that plays dirty and preys on rich tourists who visit the exclusive island of Saint Arc.
From a beach house where many of the crimes are committed to an exclusive resort where there is a lot more going on than meets the eye in the massage room, it’s one twist and turn after another in his Doc Ford installment taking you into a twisted world that few have really seen.
Just wait until you find out who’s at the center of the crime ring. Once again Randy Wayne White has created a story that is intriguing and enrapturing. This book takes you more down the thriller route than many of his past novels, but it is quite a ride and well worth taking this trip with the creations of his imagination.
Some of the characters in this book will chill you to the bone and have you thinking twice about getting a massage the next time you are on an island vacation.
George Guidall narrates Black Widow and is a brilliant voice for the job. He has mastered even the slightest changes in his tone and tempo that create the right emotion, tension and visuals as you progress through the story.
