If you are looking for inspiration, look no further than Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist. This book delves into the blows that life has thrown actor Michael J. Fox and the lemonade he has made out of those lemons.
If you have all kept up with the life of actor Michael J Fox, you probably have a good idea of how he came to write Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist. Fox was early on known as Alex P. Keaton on the Family Ties TV sitcom. Next he was Marty in the popular Back to the Future movies.
Years later he was known for his role in Spin City. But during that time, he developed Parkinson’s Disease. Over time the disease became more and more pronounced and caused him to have to retire from acting. This book is a look at how his life progressed through this time and how he dealt with the crushing blow that he had to give up the career he loved.
While some people could find themselves depressed and withdraw from the world when their dreams and ability to do what they love were taken away from them, this is not what happens with Fox. Instead, he used his star power and his new understanding of the disease and learned how to use those things to try and bring about changes in the medical community.
This book looks not only at his acting career and now his life as an activist, but all those things in life that made him who he is and keep him going from family to faith and even an interest in politics.
This book was extremely inspiring to listen to and as a Michael J. Fox fan a complete joy to take in!
