Another Week, More New Tiles to Consider for Your Library?
If you missed it yesterday, I am happy to announce that the 100 Stories for Haiti charity project will have an abridged audiobook version produced by BBC Audiobooks America. We are ironing out details, so stay tuned!
Let’s see what’s new to read this week in digital books…
Hell Gate by Linda Fairstein, narrated by Barbara Rosenblat. The twelfth installment in the Alexandra Cooper series takes a look at human trafficking. Personally, I really enjoy Fairstein’s work. I have read all of her books, and won’t miss this one.
Angelology by Danielle Trussoni, read by Susan Denaker. Sister Evangeline of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration discovers a letter from a famous philanthropist and is plunged into a secret history involving the descendants of angels and humans. These descendants, the Nephilim, aim to subvert the good in humanity. Not on my list… is it on yours?
The Story of Stuff: How Our Obsession with Stuff is Trashing the Planet, Our Communities written and read by Annie Leonard. With all of the attention on environmental health issues and sustainability, it is no surprise to see a book addressing the issues. We do have too much stuff… Do we want to know what it will take to limit our materialism and save the planet?
The Weed That Strings the Hangman’s Bag by Alan Bradley, narrated by Jayne Entwistle. Flavia de Luce is a dangerously brilliant 11-year-old genius. Her talent for solving crimes finds her untangling two deaths… and perhaps getting in over her head. I had wanted to read The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, the first mystery featuring Flavia de Luce, but I had forgotten all about it!
The Edge of Physics: A Journey to Earth’s Extremes to Unlock the Secrets of the Universe by Anil Ananthaswamy, narrated by L.J. Ganser. My son is currently entrenched in high school physics, so when I saw this title, I thought it was worth a second look. Ananthaswamy sets out to answer some difficult questions: Why is the universe expanding at an ever faster rate?
What is “dark matter” and what part does it play in our universe? Are we the only form of life in the universe?, Why is it that everything seems to be so liaised with life it self? He traveled the globe and while it’s unclear as to whether he actually answers those questions, it sounds like a journey worth reading about.
