An Overview:
In Plum Lucky Stephanie finds herself on the hunt for her own Grandma Mazur who has accidentally acquired some money that a former jockey stole from a mobster. She needs to find grandma before anyone else does. Plum Lucky is a continuation of the ‘Between the Numbers’ holiday themed stories.
Main Body:
In this one Stephanie Plum is again linked up with Diesel. The book opens with Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur finding a bunch of money in a bag out in the street. Instead of doing the responsible thing and turning it in, Grandma Mazur takes off to Atlantic City to enjoy her new-found fortune. Unfortunately, it turns out the real owner of that money was Delvina, a mobster.
Initially Stephanie and Lula try to handle things by themselves, and head to Atlantic City to bring Grandma Mazur back. But they soon find out they are not the only ones hunting her down. A man named Snuggy O’Connor (who claims he is a leprechaun when in reality he is only a former jockey) was the one who stole the money in the first place and wants back what he rightfully took. Stephanie calls for more help but with Morelli busy and Ranger out of reach, she’s left with calling Diesel in to back her up.
While it may be a continuation of the series, this book is actually better than some of the past Between the Numbers novels. Sure it still had a few over the top quirky moments and plenty of goofiness, but it was a very fun read. It’s also a quick easy read at under 200 pages that will have you chuckling and wiling the day away as you turn the pages. Did I mention there was a horse in their RV at one point?
Now, if you completely hated the other ‘Between the Numbers’ novels, you are probably not going to be a big fan of this one either, but if you were on the line about them, you may want to give this one a try.
The Narration:
Lorelei King once again hits a home run with her ability to change her voice and become all of the characters in this book, even a leprechaun this time. She is a joy to listen to.
