Speech Recognition Software
To actually sit down and dictate what you wish to say without the need to actually type is a godsend to someone like me, whose vision is not what it once was, and whose typing skills are basic to say the least.
Training and General use:
While the system is not perfect, and it does make mistakes, which can be at times frustrating whilst correcting and training Dragon NaturallySpeaking in the early days of use. However, it does improve in time as the system learns about your voice characteristics. I use the system 95% of the time for writing articles, composing and answering e-mails. The amount of time the system has saved me over time is immeasurable, I can actually dictate as fast as I would normally speak, in fact the system tends to make less mistakes as it tends to be more accurate in using the correct words contextually when you dictate a long sentence in one go.
Most Accurate Version Yet
The current version is far more accurate than previous versions and requires far less training, but some training is still required nevertheless. If you are not accustomed to voice recognition software it may feel a little strange talking to your computer, particularly when somebody walks in the room.
However, training is necessary because everybody is voice patterns are different, so by investing around 20 minutes of your time, the system will be able to adapt to your voice pattern, which in the long-term will make for a very worthwhile investment of your time to increase the system’s accuracy, which in turn will decrease your frustration.
Conclusion:
Dragon NaturallySpeaking is a fantastic piece of software, it is certainly a long less fuss to install and use than ever
before. Nevertheless, as is the case with many software packages, a little time to learn how to get the best from it will play dividends in the end. It is still far more advanced than the prepackaged voice recognition systems that come with some versions of computer operating systems. For the serious user that plans to do a lot of dictating, this will be a very good investment.
The standard edition of Dragon NaturallySpeaking should suffice for anyone wishing to dictate articles and e-mails and the like, while the more expensive NaturallySpeaking preferred edition would be more suitable for anyone who wishes to voice command their software or needs support for their mobile devices.
This entire article was dictated using Dragon NaturallySpeaking and in conclusion, I would recommend it highly. Eight out of 10 stars.
