I’m finishing my friend’s manuscript and then moving on to some new books that I bought for the trip. Here’s what I chose:
Heat Wave by Richard Castle
Johnny Heller narrates this book that is “written” by the lead character in the television crime series, Castle. It’s short and light and I expect to be entertained without having to think very hard!
Mr. Peanut by Adam Ross
Mr. Peanut is read by Mark Deakins and is a little heavier than Heat Wave. I’ve been looking forward to reading it for a while, and this seemed like the perfect excuse! I am actually going to read this one as an eBook on my iPad. The plot revolves around David Pepin and his twisted love for his wife. He loves her completely, yet is obsessive in his thinking about her death. When she dies suspiciously, guess who is the prime suspect? I’m thoroughly intrigued by this and can’t wait to read it!
Star Island by Carl Hiaasen
Stephen Hove narrates the latest venture by Hiaasen. The cast of characters includes a 22-year-old pop star with a drug and alcohol habit, her undercover double, an obsessed paparazzo, Botoxed publicists, a backstage mother, and a bodyguard with a weed-whacker. There is no way this won’t be a wonderfully wild ride.
I know what you’re thinking. That’s plenty of books. I’ll only be gone a week and most of the time will be busy… But I always like to have an extra book… just in case I don’t like one that I brought or for some reason I have more time than anticipated. With that in mind, some other I am going to bring:
Fever Dream by Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston
The audiobook version is narrated by Rene Auberjonois, but I have the print version from the library. It will be tucked away in my suitcase just in case I need it or am in the mood for something different. I have read a few of the Special Agent Pendergast books and am always intrigued by them. In this one he finds out more about his wife, now deceased, than he ever wanted to know.
That’s it for me! I’m off for a week! Read something wonderful while I’m gone!
