Best Selling Authors Stephen King, Michael Connelly Audiobook Recommendations!

by on June 12, 2010

I just found this awesome page on Audible.com that lists new book recommendations from some bestselling authors.

How much better does it get? I mean, if I’m looking for something to read, who better to give me some ideas than authors I love? Michael Connelly, Stephen King, Linda Fairstein, and more authors tell you which audiobooks to read next!

Michael Connelly

Michael Connelly

Michael Connelly

I really enjoy Michael Connelly’s crime fiction, so naturally I was interested his recommendation of So Cold the River by Michael Koryta (read by Robert Petkoff). Eric Shaw is tasked with looking into the mysterious childhood of a billionaire. The journey takes him to a restored hotel and a long-forgotten evil. Part thriller, part supernatural, part horror, this novel seems to defy genre stereotypes. I may just have to give it a shot.

Stephen King

 Stephen King

Stephen King recommends The Passage, by Justin Cronin (read by Scott Brick). Through a military experiment, a virus is unleashed that brings horrible devastation to the US. No sparkly vampires in this one. I’ve already bought a copy because my son wants to read it as well. It is worth noting that this book is being offered at a discounted one credit on Audible through July 7.

declares it, “the best audiobook I’ve ever heard”

King also mentions Blood’s a River by James Ellroy (narrated by Craig Wasson) and declares it, “the best audiobook I’ve ever heard”. Now that’s a heck of an endorsement! Blood’s a River takes place in 1968, post-King and Kennedy assassinations. Corruption, retribution, and ideals all feature heavily in this political noir. I trust Stephen King, but I’m not sure this one is going to do it for me. You?

Linda Fairstein

Linda Fairstein, who writes awesome thrillers, recommends City of Dragons by Kelli Stanley (narrated by Cynthia Holloway). In February of 1940, San Francisco’s Chinatown is celebrating Chinese New Year. PI Mirandi Corbie discovers a dead body and is disgusted with political efforts to cover up the murder. Will she be able to find justice? I could go for this…

Kathryn Stockett

Kathryn Stockett, author of the hit novel, The Help, says that Backseat Saints, written and read by Joshilyn Jackson is a great read. Rose Mae Lolly is trapped in an abusive marriage until a chance meeting with a fortune-teller reveals that Rose will die at her husband’s hand unless she kills him first. Rose runs for her life and seeks to find her missing mother to save herself. Yup. I’m hooked. It’s on the list.

Reading and writing are my passions. I read a lot of paper books as well as listen to audiobooks utilizing playaways from the local library. I listen to most of my audiobooks on my iPod. I read about one book/week and am rarely seen without one in hand. Come along and discuss this article in our friendly community forum.
