I love Jeffery Deaver’s books – having read some in traditional format and some on audiobook.
I have read them all and look forward each new one with great enthusiasm. His Kathryn Dance and Lincoln Rhyme novels never fail to keep me on the edge of my seat.
He is a very talented author… but can he carry on the James Bond tradition?
Deaver to pen the next 007 Adventure
Ian Fleming Publications Ltd chose Deaver to pen the latest spy adventure featuring the very British 007. The book will be published by Hodder & Stoughton in the UK and Simon & Schuster in the US.
The first James Bond book by Ian Fleming was Casino Royale, written in 1952. The unabridged audio version features the skillful and entertaining narration of Simon Vance. Since that first novel, over 100 million Bond books have been sold.
Deaver wins the Ian Fleming Steel Daggar Award
In 2004, when Jeffery Deaver won the Ian Fleming Steel Daggar Award, he discussed his admiration for Fleming’s work in his acceptance speech.
Apparently this made an impression on the Director of Ian Fleming Publications Ltd, especially since the book Deaver had won for was a European period piece: Garden of Beasts, which was set in 1936 Berlin.
He has written over 25 novels and most of them have hit the bestsellers lists
Over 20 million of Deaver’s books have sold worldwide. He has written over 25 novels and most of them have hit the bestsellers lists. His 1999 novel, The Bone Collector (narrated by Kerry Shale) was adapted into a successful film starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.
Deaver a fan of the Bond novels
Deaver acknowledges the impact of Fleming’s writing on his own work on thrillers and has been a fan of the Bond novels since he was a boy. His early works, as a child, were based on the Bond formula of an American spy with a British connection.
Details of new book are being kept under wraps, except that it takes place in the present and takes Bond to several exotic places. Deaver plans to keep the Bond persona intact, while adding his own trademarks of fast pacing and lots of plot twists.
Jeffery Deaver is thrilled to have been chosen to carry on the tradition of these great spy novels. The book is being called Project X, and is as yet untitled. The release date for the book is May 28, 2011. To keep tabs on Project X, check out http://www.jamesbondprojectx.com/ or follow it on Twitter: @007ProjectX or @JefferyDeaver.
