Bestselling Audio Books: House Rules by Jodi Picoult and More

I found a cool new app: Jingle, works with your iPod or iPhone so users can tweet what music, podcast, or audio book they listening to, along with your comments and a link if they want to check it out. This is a very cool way to share what you love… or hate… quickly via Twitter. I’m downloading it now!

The 3rd annual Tournament of Audiobooks continues on Audible.com. We are down to the Semifinals with the following books: The Help by Kathryn Stockett vs. Under the Dome by Stephen King and Always Looking Up by Michael J. Fox vs. The Gathering Storm by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. When I voted, it looked like the The Help and The Gathering Storm were in the lead…

Let’s take a look at the New York Times list of Bestselling Fiction:

Jodi Picoult’s House Rules (narrated by Mark Turetsky, Nicole Poole, Andy Paris, Christopher Evan Welch, and Rich Orlow) tops the list. Picoult is known for taking on touchy and often controversial subjects. In some instances, I have enjoyed her work, in others I felt she copped out. I won’t spoil it for you, but I still am disgusted with My Sister’s Keeper.

If you want to know why, come to the forum to ask me. In this outing, Picoult presents readers with a teenager with Asperger’s Syndrome, a type of autism. His interest in forensic analysis and unusual social behaviors lead to him being considered a suspect in a murder. I love the premise… I’ll be interested to find out if it lives up to my expectations.

“Abraham Lincoln’s mother dies at the hands of a vampire”

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith (read by Scott Holst) is a new title on the list and an interesting one at that. In an unexpected fictional twist, Abraham Lincoln’s mother dies at the hands of a vampire. This motivates him to fight the undead as they also play a major role in the Civil War. Okay, this kind of thing appeals to me, but I’m not sure about it. Anybody read it?

Danielle Trussoni’s Angelology (narrated by Susan Denaker) is also a new title on the list. I really want to read this one. When Sister Evangeline discovers a secret history that pits the Society of Angelologists against the Nephilim, descendents of humans and angels, she must join in a war that she had no idea was being waged.

The Weed that Strings the Hangman’s Bag by Alan Bradley (read by Jayne Entwistle) is resting comfortably on the bestseller list. I still want to read the first of the series, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie! I love the idea of an 11-year-old genius who loves chemistry and solving murders. I am looking forward to reading both of these books.
