New Nonfiction Audio Book Releases: Cavemen, Therapy, And A History of Ghosts

by on March 21, 2010

The variety of nonfiction new releases is truly astounding this week. Audiobooks about improving marriage, the history of ghosts, and even one about the Cro-Magnon are all ready for your perusal…

The Husbands and Wives Club: A Year in the Life of a Couples Therapy Group by Laurie Abraham read by Laural Merlington. This book includes the stories of 5 couples going through group marriage therapy.

Abraham, a journalist, followed them through the process as they worked through their issues and saved their marriages. Sounds like an interesting inside look at group marriage therapy.

New Audio Book Releases Married to DistractionMarried to Distraction: Restoring Intimacy and Strengthening Your Marriage in an Age of Interruption by Edward Hallowell, Sue Hallowell, and Melissa Orlov, read by Edward and Sue Hallowell. Any married couple can attest to just how busy life is. The Hallowell’s team up to explain the cost of our demanding lifestyles on our marriages. They offer advice and reassurance. Now we just have to find time to read it.

“Car as awful as the Yugo “

The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History by Jason Vuic, read by Erik Synnestvedt. In 1985, pretty much every joke in the US had Yugo in its punchline. This is the story of how, exactly, a car as awful as the Yugo ever ended up being manufactured. Anyone who remembers the Yugo may be entertained by this.

Cro-Magnon: How the Ice Age Gave Birth to the First Modern Humans by Brian Fagan, read by James Langton. Fagan presents readers with the story of Cro-Magnon man – his struggles with environment and the Neanderthals. These Ice Age humans managed to survive with only basic tools. I have to get this for my son. I have a feeling it would really intrigue him.

A History of Ghosts: The True Story of Séances, Mediums, Ghosts, and Ghostbusters by Peter H. Aykroyd, read by Jeremy Gage and Dan Aykroyd. Before you ask, yes, it is that Dan Aykroyd. Peter is his father, whose interest in séance’s inspired Dan to make the movie Ghostbusters. This book explores the history of spiritualism and fascination with ghosts. I’m betting anyone with an interest in the supernatural will want to read this…
In summary, this week you can save your marriage, reminisce about the Yugo, learn about early man, and explore spiritualism. Wow.

I read about one book/week and am rarely seen without one in hand. Come along and discuss this article in our friendly community forum.
