Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was a huge hit last year all over the world and plans are in the works for a movie, so is it any wonder that a sequel… actually a prequel… has come out?
This is the story of the beginning of the zombie plague, complete with Elizabeth Bennett’s evolution as zombie slayer. My son has the first book, and I need to steal it from him to read it!
Bite Me: A Love Story by Christopher Moore, read by Susan Bennett. I’ve told you that I love Christopher Moore… The next in the Love Story series, following You Suck and Bloodsucking Fiends.
Bite Me continues to follow the adventures of vampires Tommy and Jody and their Goth buddy, Abby Normal. I in this outing, we are faced with Chet the vampire cat’s increasing thirst, the Emperor of San Francisco, and other indescribable characters. If you like dark humor, vampires, and general insanity, read this.
Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War by Karl Marlantes, read by Bronson Pinchot. Political ambitions motivate a young Marine lieutenant during monsoon season in Vietnam. The novel examines the value of ambition over compassion. I am generally not into war novels, but this sounded interesting… then I listened to a clip. I remembered the narrator from his various television and movie roles. Quite honestly, the reading was so flat and expressionless; I can’t imagine listening to the entire book. If you’re going to read this, go for hardcover or eBook.
The Day I Shot Cupid: Hello, My Name Is Jennifer Love Hewitt and I’m a Love-aholic written and read by Jennifer Love Hewitt. The self-proclaimed love-aholic, the author recounts the lessons she has learned about love. She advises us to forget about the flowers and silly hearts and to know that finding and keeping love is hard work. She talks about finding the right man, and what to do with the wrong ones. Sounds like good advice for women trying to figure out what to do after they have found that men are from mars…
Freezing Point by Karen Dionne, read by Mark Boyett. Touted as the female Michael Crichton, Dionne takes readers through a story that touches on environmentalism, humanity, science, and big business. Action-heavy, character-light, this sounds like a fast thriller.
The Male Brain: A Breakthrough Understanding of How Men and Boys Think by Louann Brizendine, narrated by Kimberly Farr. This exploration of how the male brain functions differently and perceives reality differently than the female brain should be very enlightening. From using the analytical part of the brain to problem-solve, to a 2.5 times larger brain area dedicated to sexual pursuit, this book should probably be provided as an instruction manual for any woman trying to demystify men. I have a husband and three sons. I’m thinking this is necessary reading.
