Audio Book New Releases: The Spellmans Strike Again

by on March 19, 2010

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! There are quite a few bestselling authors on this week’s list of new audiobook releases. Clive Cussler, Lisa Lutz, Lisa Scottoline, and Walter Mosley are all here! Read on.

The Silent Sea: A Novel of the Oregon Files by Clive Cussler and Jack DuBrul, narrated by Scott Brick. In this sixth entry in the adventures of the crew of the Oregon.

Juan Cabrillo and his crew find an unexpected mystery when retrieving the remains of a crashed satellite in the jungles of Argentina. I don’t read Cussler, but I’m sure his fans will be pleased.

The Spellmans Strike Again by Lisa LutzThe Spellmans Strike Again: A Novel by Lisa Lutz, narrated by Christina Moore. Izzy Spellman has taken over the family business, Spellman Investigations. Digging up dirt on her main competition, working a missing person’s case, and giving in to her mother’s blackmail are all on the menu.

I read the first Spellman novel, The Spellman Files, and really enjoyed it. I had completely forgotten about the series… I think this would make a good, light, vacation read…Think Twice by Lisa Scottoline, narrated by Jennifer Van Dyck. Lawyer Bennie Rosato has an identical twin, but aside from looks they have little in common.

Alice takes over Bennie’s life, impersonating her after burying Bennie alive. Will Bennie be able to escape and make Alice pay? I love Scottoline. I’m planning on reading this as soon as possible!

Known to Evil: A Leonid McGill Mystery by Walter Mosley, read by Mirron Willis. Leonid McGill was introduced in Mosley’s The Long Fall. McGill must help a Manhattan City Hall bigwig fixer find a woman who has gone missing. I’ve only read a couple of Mosley’s books. Should I try this out? Anybody read either one?

Wild Ride by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer, narrated by Angela Dawe. Crusie takes a slight departure from her romantic chick lit to explore demented demons, inexperienced sorceresses, and immortal evil. Um…. I’ll pass.

Fang by James Patterson, narrated by Jill Apple. You might recall that I mentioned a generous sample of this audiobook was offered on iTunes recently. The full book that explores the further adventures of Max and the winged children is here. My son’s read a couple of these YA books early on, but lost interest. I asked them why, but they didn’t seem to have a coherent response. Either it just wasn’t good anymore or they are teenagers… or both.

Reading and writing are my passions. I read a lot of paper books as well as listen to audiobooks utilizing playaways from the local library. I listen to most of my audiobooks on my iPod. I read about one book/week and am rarely seen without one in hand. Come along and discuss this article in our friendly community forum.
