100 Stories for Haiti Audiobook update. BBC Audiobooks America is recording selected stories from the book right now! The recorded book will be available for download from the iTunes store soon… Watch here for updates!

Mac users can finally use Amazon’s Kindle eBook software. Six months ago, the free software was made available to Windows users, as well as iPod/iPhone users in app form.

Now Mac lovers can download the free program to buy and read books from the Kindle store and sync the content with other devices.

One of my favorite features in the Kindle store is the ability to download a free sample to your computer or device. I don’t have a Kindle, but I use the program on my computer and iPod. I have gone on to buy and/or reject purchasing several books based on being able to read a chapter…

Audio book news-Captain UnderpantsCaptain Underpants!
Brace yourself, parents! Captain Underpants is back! Parents, teachers, and elementary librarians have expressed mixed feelings about the potty-fiction series that appeals to elementary school students. Personally, I read them right along with my sons. They are silly, funny, and if it gets kids to read…

I’m all for it! The new installment, The Adventures of Oak and Gluk, Kung-Fu Cavemen from the Future will be released by Scholastic in August. My son LOVES the Diary of Wimpy Kid books… but now it’s a movie. I have such mixed feelings about this sort of thing. Honestly, I love it when my son gets excited about a book.

When the movies start to roll in… well, it bugs me. Sort of like when my two oldest were enthralled by the Harry Potter books. I told them they had to read them before seeing the movies, and they were glad they did – but many of their friends didn’t bother reading if they could sit like vegetables and have it fed to them on the big screen. Excuse me while I step off my soap box, but before I do…

If you have an intermediate grade son, make him read or listen to the books before seeing the movie. Thank you. As with Kindle’s text-to-speech feature, the similar iPad feature is generating headlines questioning whether it will threaten audiobooks. The answer is NO, people! The feature simply makes various texts accessible for everyone. Someone wanting to read an entire book will likely want the quality of a human voice. Stop worrying.

“Captain Kirk wants you!”

Captain Kirk wants you! William Shatner, best known for his role on the original Star Trek television series, has launched a new web site for science fiction fans: www.myouterspace.com. Visitors may register for the planet that houses their particular interest. Planets are available for animators, writers, gamers, actors, producers, and musical artists, all with sci-fi, horror, and fantasy themes. What a great idea!

Reading and writing are my passions. I read a lot of paper books as well as listen to audiobooks utilizing playaways from the local library. I listen to most of my audiobooks on my iPod. I read about one book/week and am rarely seen without one in hand. Come along and discuss this article in our friendly community forum.
