Something for the beach perhaps?
While we have had a few responses, nothing is set as of today. When the book does become available, I hope you will consider purchasing. All profits will be donated to the Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.
Brava, Valentine: A Novel by Adriana Trigiani, narrated by Cassandra Campbell
Trigiani, author of the Big Stone Gap series, has a flair for telling compelling stories. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, she offers us the story of Valentine Roncalli, a shoemaker in family of wedding shoe artisans. Valentine’s life and loves evolve as she makes choices for the family business.
Flirt by Laurell K. Hamilton, narrated by Kimberly Alexis. Supernatural thrillers are Hamilton’s specialty. This one features necromancer Anita Blake. When a man approaches her about reanimating his recently deceased wife, she tries to talk him out of it. For some reason, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work…
Poor Little Bitch Girl by Jackie Collins, read by Jackie Collins and Allison Daugherty. I used to read Jackie Collins’ books at the beach. They are truly that kind of light, sexy, no-brainer kind of books. In other words, if you are going on vacation and want something to read, this might work for you. Unbelievably, Collins is still writing about the Santangelo family, a series that started years ago with Chances and Lucky. This installment has murder, deception, and lots of sex. The usual Collins novel.
The Postmistress by Sarah Blake, read by Orlagh Cassidy. Set in 1940, The Postmistress takes a long look at three women, a radio announcer, a postmistress, and a doctor. Their lives intertwine as the war draws them together.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, narrated by Cassandra Campbell and Bahni Turpin. Henrietta Lacks, also known as HeLa, was a tobacco farmer. Without her knowledge, her cells were taken and used in some incredibly important medical research. They are the first immortal cells grown in culture and are still alive today. The cells have been used to develop a polio vaccine, gene mapping, and many more important discoveries. For such an amazing asset, HeLa’s family has never profited from any of it. This sounds like fiction, but it’s not!
