Which Have You Read?
Before the ball dropped in Times Square, magazines, newspapers, and websites were already announcing top ten lists for the decade. While many of these lists are tiresome, I do like those that relate to reading. Here are lists of the top ten print edition bestselling books of the decade with audiobook version narrators noted.
The Top 10 Best Selling Books of the Decade (per Telegraph.co.uk) This is the list of print edition bestsellers – I have included audiobook narrators for your information.
1) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter book 7) by JK Rowling – audiobook narrated by Jim Dale
2) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter book 6) by JK Rowling – audiobook narrated by Jim Dale)
3) Breaking Dawn (Twilight book 4) by Stephenie Meyer – audiobook narrated by Ilyana Kadushin and Matt Walters
4) Twilight (book 1) by Stephenie Meyer – audiobook narrated by Ilyana Kadushin)
5) Eclipse (Twilight book 3) by Stephenie Meyer – audiobook narrated by Ilyana Kadushin)
6) The Tales of Beedle the Bard by JK Rowling – audiobook narrated by Jim Dale)
7) New Moon (Twilight book 2) by Stephenie Meyer – audiobook narrated by Ilyana Kadushin)
8) The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger – audiobook narrated by William Hope and Laurel Lefkow
9) The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini – audiobook narrated by the author
10) A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini – audiobook narrated by Atossa Leoni
It is unsurprising that the two top-sellers of the decade are the last two entries in the Harry Potter series. They were both incredibly well written and Jim Dale’s narration is superb. I am a bit surprised that none of the other Potter titles made it into the top ten, but I suppose some of their thunder was stolen by the Twilight series. I was also pleased to see The Time Traveler’s Wife and Khaled Hosseini’s novels included in this list.
While I have not read Meyer’s Twilight series… I guess I’m not really the target audience, which may explain my apathy regarding the series… I have read all of the other titles on this list. If your New Year’s resolution is to read more, there are some great books to choose from here!
