The Da Vinci Code and Beyond.
eBook Reader Update:
Before I discuss Dan Brown, I have to tell you: I got my hands on the nook at Barnes & Noble yesterday. They finally had a working demo on the floor and I was all over it… and disappointed. I loved the features and the touch screen.
I wish they had offered more choices of content to try, but it was very limited. There was no way to test the mp3 audiobook feature! The big problems, as I see it, are the slow responsiveness of the touch screen and the strange flashing prior to each page turn. I think that would make me crazy after awhile. So, I am still waiting for the perfect eBook reader. Hopefully nook will get enough customer feedback to remedy issues or the Kindle will pick up where the nook leaves off. Either way, I’ll be waiting.
Dan Brown
Dan Brown has become a force to be reckoned with. After his incredible success with The Da Vinci Code, he could seemingly do no wrong. The Lost Symbol, his follow up to The Da Vinci Code was a top seller before its release. With 5 titles available on audiobook, Brown has made a huge impression on readers.
The Da Vinci Code
The book that really launched Dan Brown was not a literary masterpiece. If you are looking for beautiful prose and imagery, try Richard Russo. This book’s appeal lies solely with the plot. Twists, turns, and symbols feature heavily in a murder mystery that has Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist, working overtime. This is a fast paced thriller with brains. I liked it, my husband was unimpressed. It all depends on what you are looking for…
The Lost Symbol
This follow up to The DaVinci Code again features Robert Langdon. This time he is working to decode symbols and is drawn into the world of the Freemasons. It has received mixed reviews and is, at present, on my shelf waiting for the day I decide to give it a whirl.
Angels and Demons
Angels and Demons actually came before The Da Vinci Code. Langdon is at the helm, decoding a symbol that may be a link to the Illuminati. I have this one as well… as an eBook just waiting to be read.
Deception Point
I actually did read this one, and liked it. No symbols or Robert Langdon here. This one has a rare object buried in Arctic ice. It was quite interesting and another fast read.
Digital Fortress
Cryptography, the NSA, and intelligence secrets make up the basis for this thriller that is keeping The Lost Symbol Company on my shelf. I really need to get reading!
I’ll be back in January with new audiobook news! Have a safe and wonderful holiday… and listen to a good book!
