What’s new on the bestseller List for this week?
I like to see the titles on various bestseller lists. They are always so incredibly diverse! Here’s a sampling of titles from this week’s bestselling audiobooks from Audible.com.
New, and straight to number one, is Stephen King’s Under the Dome (read by Raul Esparza). This 34 hour 29 minute mega-novel is sitting on my kitchen counter. I’m debating whether to listen on the CD player or to load it onto my iPod. Initial reader reviews are great, so I am looking forward to it. Only King could come up with this plot: A small town suddenly finds itself cut off from the rest of the world by an invisible dome. I am staying away from any spoilers or in-depth reviews so I can experience the story to the fullest.
Another new title this week comes from bestselling authors Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Good Omens, read by Martin Jarvis, sounds deliciously wicked. According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world will end this Saturday. Good and Evil are preparing for an ultimate battle. With these two authors, nothing is simple. The birth of Satan’s son, the Rapture, and an angel and demon with personal motives to prevent the prophecy from coming true, are all interwoven and connected in unexpected ways. This is not a new title, but it sounds like one worth reading.
Kindred in Death: In Death, Book 29 by J.D. Rob and read by Susan Ericksen is the latest in Robb’s enormously popular series featuring Dallas and Roarke. This entry has a terribly cruel villain wreaking havoc on NY City. I haven’t read the series, but I did listen to the sample online… and I think I’m hooked.
Andrew Ross Sorkin’s Too Big to Fail, narrated by William Hughes, is a nonfiction book dedicated to presenting the inside story on the financial crisis in the U.S. Sorkin, a NY Times reporter, offers information from the Lehmen Brothers offices as well as within the capitol. Anyone with an interest in the current economic situation and how we ended up here may want to give this a listen.
Also on the list: The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown (read by Paul Michael); The Copper Bracelet and The Chopin Manuscript by bestselling thriller authors (narrated by Alfred Molina); True Blue by David Baldacci (read by Ron McLarty); Nine Dragons by Michael Connelly (narrated by Len Cariou).
