Digital Media Devices | B&N Answers Nook Questions!

It’s time for a nook update. I still haven’t laid hands on one, but I did contact Barnes & Noble with a few more questions for clarification after reading various articles comparing it to the Kindle. Read on… especially for the audiobook capabilities. Prices eBook prices have been said to be higher at BN.com than at Amazon for books not on the bestseller list. B&N responds that publishers set the prices and that they do not have a lot of flexibility in pricing. They are working with publishers to bring the best value to customers. File Format The nook...

Audio Book New Releases | U is for Undertow by Sue Grafton and More!

Happy Thanksgiving! Usually, I discuss the bestseller lists, but this week the list was pretty much at a steady state. Rather than bore you with books I have already mentioned, I thought I would take a peek at what’s coming up in audiobooks for December. U is for Undertow by Sue Grafton (read by Judy Kaye) Grafton has taken her detective, Kinsey Millhone, through the alphabet as she faces mystery after mystery. This entry moves between the 80s and the 60s, with varying viewpoints woven together. Honestly, I gave up on this series around the letter L. I know...

Audio Book News | More on Books into Movies

Yesterday, I began my discussion of audiobooks being made into movies for holiday season release. There were too many titles to fit into one entry! Today, I continue to check out movies that are currently in theaters or set for November/December release. Fantastic Mr. Fox is… well… a fantastic book written and narrated by Roald Dahl. Geared toward the elementary school audience, this is a fun and interesting adventure story. The movie features the vocal talents of Owen Wilson, George Clooney, Meryl Streep, and Willem Dafoe. My kids enjoyed the book, but are a bit too old to want to see the movie. The Blind Side was written by Michael Lewis (narrated by Stephen Hoye). It is a story of a homeless teen that is taken in by a family, despite their very different backgrounds. The movie features Tim McGraw, Kathy Bates, and Sandra Bullock. My neighbor just saw the movie and loved it. I am not a Sandra Bullock fan. At all. I won’t be seeing it… but I might read it. New Moon by Stephenie Meyer and read by Ilyana Kadushin is at the heart of the vampire craze. Teens have read and reread the books and flocked to the movie in droves. As for me, I’ll skip both. The Road was an Oprah’s Book Club Selection by Cormac McCarthy (read by Rupert Degas). Oprah loved this...

Audio Book News | Books into Movies: How Do They Compare?

Before I begin, an update: I went to Barnes & Noble this morning in hopes of getting my hands on the nook to test it out, but it won’t be in-store until November 30! At the moment, I am consoling myself with a Starbucks White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha Cappuccino. I’ve told everyone that I want a Kindle or a nook for Christmas, so I’m sure I won’t get one. Why do people think that books and literary paraphernalia aren’t fabulous gifts? Silly Season The holiday season is usually loaded with big budget films and this season is no exception....
