New Titles from Favorite Authors this Week
I f my entry sounds disjointed today, I hope you will forgive me. There are so many fantastic titles, I’m sure I will be stopping to make my wish list as I go along. Hopefully something on the audiobook new release list will appeal to you…
Evidence by Jonathan Kellerman (read by John Rubenstein) is the latest entry in Kellerman’s popular Alex Delaware series. If you are unfamiliar with the characters, Delaware is a psychologist who works with the LAPD to solve particularly twisted murders with homicide detective Milo Sturgis.
In this entry, they must solve a mystery surrounding two dead bodies found in the building site of a huge mansion. I have read all of Kellerman’s suspenseful novels and will definitely be reading this one as well.
Half Broke Horses: A True-Life Novel written and read by Jeannette Walls is the author’s presentation of her grandmother’s story. Walls gained acclaim for her memoir The Glass Castle, which I highly recommend. Presenting her grandmother’s life in the first person as a novel is very intriguing. Yes, it is on my list.
Children:
Return to the Hundred Acre Wood by David Benedictus (read by Jim Dale) is a new volume of stories featuring the beloved characters from A.A. Milnes’ Pooh stories. This is the first volume approved by the trustees of the Pooh properties. With Jim Dale narrating, how can you go wrong? Oh, and for fun, visit the link on Audible.com’s Return to the Hundred Acre Wood page to watch Dale in action as he voices the characters!
Nonfiction:
Manhood for Amateurs: The Pleasures and Regrets of a Husband, Father, and Son written and narrated by Michael Chabon is the first major nonfiction book from the author. The Pulitzer Prize winner offers these personal essays and reflections on his life as he examines what it means to be a man. Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is one of my favorite novels. I am looking forward to this intimate peek into the author’s life.
American on Purpose:
The Improbably Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot written and narrated by Craig Ferguson is a humorous memoir of the comedic actor as he made his way from Scotland to the US. Ferguson is well known for his role on The Drew Carey Show and as the host of The Late Late Show. I think it will be interesting to read about Ferguson’s journey from failure to great success.
