The Kids are Back in School! What Book Will You Listen to in the Quiet Time?
My kids just boarded the bus for the first day back to school. My house is quiet. Time decide what to listen to this week! I’m in the mood for fiction, so let’s see what’s out there…
Day after Night: A Novel by Anita Diamant (narrated by Dagmara Dominczyk). I really enjoyed The Red Tent and The Last Days of Dogtown by Diamant, so choosing this one is a no-brainer.
Day after Night is based on the true story of the rescue of prisoners from an internment camp on the Mediterranean coast in 1945. The story is told through four women with diverse histories. Diamant’s talent in creating voices for her female characters is amazing, so I’m sure this will be a winner.
The Last Song: by Nicholas Sparks (read by Pepper Binkley)
I am not a huge Nicholas Sparks fan, but he has legions of fans waiting for his latest releases. In The Last Song, Sparks explores love between parents and children as well as first love. Not for me… is it one you will choose?
Between the Assassinations: by Aravind Adiga (read by Sam Dastor)
I keep eyeing this title on the library shelf. It is billed as a “novel in stories” on the cover. The stories are bound together by the voice of a travel guide writer who is describing the city of Kittur (in India) to readers. The gritty stories are in stark contrast to the sunny fiction put forth by the travel guide. I might just have to give in and check this one out…
Brief Interviews with Hideous Men: by David Foster Wallace (narrated by John Krasinski)
I just love the title of this novel. The short story collection takes the reader on a strange and often hilarious ride through the lives of a cast of characters that are at times surreal. The humor and tenderness offer readers a truly unique experience.
The Art of Drowning: by Frances Fyfield (narrated by Rula Lenska)
Polar opposites, Rachel and Ivy, meet at an evening class and their lives become intertwined. Rachel’s naïveté may put her in a precarious position with the streetwise, manipulative Ivy. Hmm… I may just go look for this one right now!
Great new titles from some of the best authors make it another great week for new audiobook titles. Check Out Audible for all the latest releases.
