T his is big week for book news. On Tuesday, September 14, Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol will hit bookstores. On Friday, September 18, Oprah Winfrey will announce her next Book Club selection. Brace yourself for two HUGE audiobooks this week!

Robert Langdon Investigates New Mystery:

Dan Brown, bestselling author of The Da Vinci Code (narrated by Jeff Harding), is taking his character, Robert Langdon, on a brand new adventure. In The Lost Symbol (read by Paul Michael), Brown ups the suspense by having the entire story take place in a 12 hour period. Publishers are optimistic that fans of Brown’s other novels will clamor to purchase this one. With an initial first US printing of 5 million copies and 1.5 million in the UK, The Lost Symbol is already a bestseller – with presales making it #1 on Audible, B&N, and Amazon.

Oprah’s New Selection is Closely Held Secret:

Oprah Winfrey announced via twitter in late August that she would announce her new book club selection on September 18, this Friday. She tweeted, “Hey all you BookClubbers. Tune in Friday, September 18th to find out what my new book club pick is–never made a selection like ‘this’.” The only concrete information is that the book is published by Little, Brown and the suggested retail price for a hardcover is $23.99 and paperback $14.99.

Detective Work:

Further exploration reveals the audiobook version will retail for $18.98-$22.98 and is 2 hours 45 minutes long (3 CDs), unabridged. After quite a bit of digging, I found a site that listed the number of pages in the paperback version as 360. A French site had links to similarly themed works in the biography section, but some sites have it in the fiction category.

No matter how hard I try to channel my inner detective, I can’t come up with a title. Her intimation that she has never chosen a book like this makes me wonder… I’ll put forward three guesses: Beginner’s Greek by James Collins (read by Jerry O’Connell), The Bible Salesman by Clyde Edgerton (read by T. Ryder Smith), This One is Mine by Maria Semple  (taking the quoted ‘this’ into account).

What do you think it will be?
