in Audio Book New Releases

There’s something for everyone in this week’s list of new audiobooks

For Middle Grade Children:

My son is addicted to The 39 Clues series by a variety of authors (each installment is written by a different children’s writer). The fifth installment,

The Black Circle, is written by Patrick Carman and read by David Pitto. The addictive books follow the adventures of the Cahill children as they face off against other family members in search of a mysterious prize.

Teen Fiction:

After, by Amy Efaw, is the story of Devon, an A-student and athlete who never knew she was pregnant, delivers an infant, and leaves it in the trash to die. Thoughtful and provocative, Efaw gives readers a peek behind the curtains into Devon’s terrible denial.

 Fantasy:

The Magicians by Lev Grossman (read by Mark Bramhall) sounds a bit like “Harry Potter Goes to College”. The main character, Quentin Coldwater is admitted to a college for modern sorcery where he finds that the fantasy tales he read as a child are true.

Thriller:

Sandra Brown offers her new thriller, Smash Cut (read by Victor Slezak), this week. The murder of a prominent CEO sends defense lawyer Derek Mitchell on an investigation that may ruin his career.

Fiction:

South of Broad by Pat Conroy (read by Mark Deakins) is a welcome sight to his fans that have waited for 14 years for a new novel. The story is set in Charleston, South Carolina and explores the family and friendships of Leopold Bloom King, a boy who finds support with new friendships after his brother’s suicide.

Non-Fiction:

Create Your Own Economy: The Path to Prosperity in a Disordered World by Tyler Cowen and ready Patrick Lawlor, is a study of behavioral economics. The author puts forth an interesting correlation between the autistic tendency to categorizing and how people use information, especially in an age where technology presents information faster than ever before.
