When Oprah announced that her highly publicized book club had chosen I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb, she said, “It’s not just a book, it’s a life experience.”

His audiobooks explore the intricacies of relationships with unflinching insight. The question is this: Why haven’t you listened to his novels yet?

She’s Come Undone

Narrated by award winning actress Kathy Najimy, She’s Come Undone explores the life of Dolores Price, a troubled New England woman coping with the challenges that life has handed to her. The coming-of age story is a roller coaster of love and pain told in a voice at once tragic and humorous. The novel enjoyed the prestige of being selected for Oprah’s Book Club.

The fact that Lamb presents this incredible story in the voice of a young woman as she struggles through a series of accidents, abuse, and the challenges of puberty in such a believable manner is nothing short of amazing. He takes listeners along with Dolores from childhood to middle age, revealing her despairing, cynical, funny, sorrowful, wonderful and not always likeable.

This portrayal is so honestly written that it is nearly impossible to stop reading.

I Know This Much Is True

Lamb enjoyed the honor of being selected as an Oprah author once more with I Know This Much Is True (narrated by George Guidall). The deeply emotional story of identical twin brothers,

Dominick and Thomas Birdsey, explores the effects of mental illness on a family. Thomas is a paranoid schizophrenic and Dominick is the brother who tries too hard to fix him.

The unabridged version hardcover version is 912 pages. Audio of this is 32.25 hours. The abridged version is 5 hours, 41 minutes. I’m not sure what is omitted to shorten the novel this much, but personally I wouldn’t want to miss a word.

The Hour I First Believed

After a ten-year absence, Lamb released The Hour I First Believed, a novel detailing the lives of people affected by the Columbine High School shootings (read by George Guidall). Through Calem Quirk and his wife Maureen, readers explore the horror of the tragedy and en route, the history of the Quirk family.

Well worth the wait, The Hour I First Believed is an incredible and profound novel. 24 hours of audio may seem daunting, but believe me; they will fly as you listen. Find Novels by Wally Lamb on audible.
