The Time Traveler’s Wife (read by William Hope and Laurel Lefkow) opening US theaters next week and Her Fearful Symmetry available on audiobook on September 29, I need to prepare you for some of the most amazing storytelling you have ever heard.
Time Travel?
I am not a big science fiction fan. I read some, but in general it’s not my thing. I picked up the book and read the back cover, “When Henry meets Clare, he is twenty-eight and she is twenty. He is a hip librarian; she is a beautiful art student. Henry has never met Clare before; Clare has known Henry since she was six…” How could I not be intrigued?
I must admit that I have, at last count, purchased 3 copies of The Time Traveler’s Wife, none of which are on my shelves. I really must stop loaning to people and insist they find their own copies!

A Love Story:
This is truly less science fiction than a love story. Not a sappy, trite, lovey-dovey romance novel, but a story of how two very interesting people find each other, love each other, and deal with a very unusual obstacle.
Henry suffers from Chrono-Impairment, a disorder that, in times of stress, pulls him out of time and displaces him. Often he finds himself in his own past, although he often does not know where or when he is. When he unexpectedly leaves, he appears in the unknown place and time with nothing – no clothes, no money – and has to figure out how to cope with things until he can return.
Don’t get hung up on the logistics and any preconceived sci-fi notions of time travel. This is entirely unique. Just go with it. Trust me. It’s the characters that will win you over.
The Author:
Audrey Niffenegger, an artist who teaches at Columbia College Chicago, had previously focused on paper art. Her work focused on picture book formats; stories that were primarily visual in nature. When she conceived of TTW, she knew that it would not translate well to her usual methodology and her first novel was born.
Her Fearful Symmetry:
After waiting for six long years, Niffenegger is finally offering fans a new novel. Two American twin daughters inherit the estate of their mother’s estranged twin. Thus the stage is set for a ghost story that I simply cannot wait to read.
