A Sampling of New Titles Available on Audio This Week!
Looking for something new to read during the dog days of summer? Here’s a sampling of audiobooks released this week.
Mystery/Suspense
The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson (read by Simon Vance) is the sequel to Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. While readers can listen to this volume as a stand-alone crime novel, Dragon Tattoo will lay the groundwork for understanding the protagonists.
Larsson’s skill as a writer makes his novels incredibly appealing. Knowing that the author passed away after writing the three books of his “Millennium” series makes the joy of reading his work bittersweet.
Young Adult Fiction
James Patterson follows up the success of The Dangerous Days of Daniel X with Daniel X: Watch the Skies. Pop culture addicts will note that both volumes are read by Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia. The selection of narrator is brilliant as the subject of the series is, of course, superheroes. Ventimiglia offers up a skilled performance in the first-person reading. This is on my must-hear list.

Children’s Fiction
Mary Pope Osborne continues to encourage young readers everywhere with her Magic Treehouse series. The latest installment: A Good Night for Ghosts (#42) finds Jack and Annie visiting New Orleans, meeting some ghosts and a young Louis Armstrong. The book is read by the author.
Religion
Fingerprints of God: The Search for the Science by Barbara Bradley Hagerty (narrated by Cassandra Campbell) looks to answer the question: Can science explain God? Hagerty, a religious correspondent for NPR, interviews top scientists to discuss whether the affects of faith and spirituality can be scientifically explained.
The Jesus You Can’t Ignore: What You Must Learn from the Bold Confrontations of Christ by John MacArthur takes a look beyond the mild depiction of Jesus to examine the fierce passion of the Savior. MacArthur, who put forth the movement “What Would Jesus Do?” in his last book, expands the idea to ask, “What did Jesus Do?”
I noticed an increased number of releases in Playaway format with headphones or earbuds included at BarnesandNoble.com this week. If downloads or CDs are not your style, check out a Playaway! Check Out Audible for all the latest releases.
